How to Use WordHive

🔤

Word Unscrambler

Type any set of letters into the search box and click Find Words. WordHive searches a dictionary of over 370,000 English words and returns every valid word you can make from those letters.

  • Use the Min Letters slider to filter out short words and focus on longer, higher-scoring options.
  • After your first search, letter chips appear below the slider. Click any chip to require that letter in every result — great for finding words that use a specific tile.
  • Results are grouped by word length by default. Switch to A–Z view with the sort buttons above the results.
🐝

NYT Spelling Bee Helper

Switch to the Spelling Bee tab and enter all 7 letters from your puzzle. Then type the required center letter into the small box below.

  • WordHive shows only words that use your 7 letters and include the center letter, exactly matching the NYT rules.
  • Pangrams — words that use all 7 letters — are highlighted with a gold border and a ★ star so they stand out instantly.
  • The center letter field updates results live as you type, so you can quickly swap between letters while experimenting.
🟩

Wordle Solver

Switch to the Wordle tab and enter your clues from today's game. WordHive narrows down the full dictionary to only 5-letter words that match everything you know.

  • Type green letters into the tile row — each tile represents its position in the word.
  • Type yellow letters (in the word but wrong spot) into the yellow field. Then click position numbers to mark where that letter is not.
  • Type eliminated gray letters into the gray field. WordHive automatically ignores letters that also appear as green or yellow, so you never have to think about overlaps.

Common Questions

Is WordHive free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no login, no download needed. It works in any modern browser on desktop or mobile.

Where does the word list come from?

WordHive uses the open-source dwyl/english-words dictionary, which contains over 370,000 English words. It loads once in the background when you first visit, then all searches happen instantly in your browser — no server involved.

Why doesn't a word I know appear in the results?

The dictionary covers general English vocabulary but may be missing some proper nouns, very new words, or highly specialized terms. It may also include some uncommon words that aren't valid in competitive word games. For official Scrabble play, always verify against an official word list like TWL or SOWPODS.

Does WordHive work on mobile?

Yes. The site is fully responsive and works on phones and tablets. The floating bees are hidden on small screens to keep things fast and uncluttered.

Can I use this for Scrabble?

Absolutely. Enter your rack letters into the Unscrambler, set the minimum length to 2, and browse by length to find your best plays. The must-include chips let you filter for words that use a specific letter — handy when you need to play off a tile already on the board.

What are pangrams in the Spelling Bee?

A pangram is a word that uses all 7 letters in the puzzle at least once. They score bonus points in the NYT Spelling Bee. In WordHive, pangrams are highlighted in gold with a ★ so they're easy to spot. Most daily puzzles have at least one pangram.
